201: The Desperate Kingdom of Love
In the second season premiere, after Lucas and Keith learn that Dan had a heart attack and is still in the hospital, they decide it is best for them to return to Tree Hill. When Deb learns about Haley and Nathan's marriage, she grows hostile. Meanwhile, angry that Lucas left Tree Hill without saying goodbye, Peyton and Brooke try to mend their friendship.

Lying in a coma after his race car accident, Nathan dreams of what life would have been like if Dan had stayed with Karen and Lucas instead of marrying Deb. In this imaginary world, Lucas would have had the wealth and stature and Nathan would have been the one growing up on the wrong side of the tracks. After waking up, Nathan phones Haley and tells her he doesn't want her to come home.

Nathan comes home with a load of bills to pay. Lucas and Peyton decide to raise money by throwing a movie party a Tric. Dan gives Nathan Annulment papers, you find out he signed them when Dan goes to New York and gives them to Haley to sign.
Brooke wants to be more than friends with Lucas but she sees a lot of signs that tell her otherwise. Lucas wants to be with Brooke too. Peyton really misses Jake and doesn't know why he is shutting her out.
Dan asks Nathan to move in with him, Nathan excepts it end the end. Nathan only wants to move in for Deb. Haley did want to come home but decided not to when she finds out Nathan signed Annulment papers. Nathan ask Lucas to stop investigating Dan but he goes behind his back.

In the first part of the two hour second season finale, things heat up between Lucas and Brooke after they head to New York for an overnight stay with Haley. Nathan and Deb conspire to desert Dan or good, leading to an explosive conclusion when he discovers their plan. Peyton is elated when she gets the band Jimmy Eat World to perform at TRIC in time for Jake's release from jail. Meanwhile, Andy invites Karen to spend the summer in New Zealand.

In the second part of the second season finale, Karen decides to go to New Zealand. She constantly tries to call Andy, but she never reaches him. Karen saw Keith outside of her cafe and then he vanished when a car pulled up in front of him. Brooke has left for the summer. Dan confronts Lucas of his intentions to seek out revenge on him. It resulted, as it seems, in both of them hating each other. Someone gets their revenge on Dan who causes all the trouble in Tree Hill. Dan may be dead because someone caught his dealership on fire with him in it. Haley comes back to Tree Hill to see Nathan.
